Superflashy Newsflash

What's that coming over the hill is it a newsflash?! It certainly is. Brace yourself, here is the latest hot goss on gin, interiors, Glos TV stars, lightshows and next level lockdown takeaways to name but a few. Shall we?

Burleigh Court is doing takeaways! (rejoice)

Takeaways during lockdown just went next level. Tucked away near Minchinhampton Common is the stunningly beautiful Burleigh Court, a Grade II listed 18th century boutique manor house hotel. In normal times it’s an incredible place to go for amazing food and a cosy fireplace (check it out if you haven’t yet). But since we’re all locked down with nowhere to go, the team has launched the Burleigh Court Takeaway.

Load me up

You can pre-order and collect stonebaked pizzas straight from the woodfired oven, and there is a special range delicious ‘Finish at Home’ suppers created by the chefs here to stock up on with locally sourced ingredients. Find out more here and order online.

His Royal Dryness! … It’s gin o’clock royal watchers

We may not be able to live inside Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall’s royal residence Highgrove House, but we can now replicate their drinks cabinet – hurrar! Their new organic Highgrove gin has gone on sale and it looks utterly delicious.

Launched in collab with Fortnum & Mason the botanical tipple is made from grain grown in the Gloucestershire garden. We hear Prince Charles has helped create it himself and it features juniper, citrus, lemon verbena, thyme and rosemary notes.

Gin fans can purchase the gin for £39.95 (or pop into the shop in Tetbury when we’re all released), all profits from sales go to the Prince of Wales’ Charitable Fund.

The Prince Albert makes a starring appearance on BBC2 ….

The much-loved (and Muddy award-winning) Prince Albert pub in Rodborough is about to make a star turn on our TVs in the new BBC Two series Saving Britain’s Pubs with Tom Kerridge.

Kerridge is fighting to help save the Prince Albert

Gloucestershire’s celebrity chef and publican, Tom Kerridge, has chosen the The Prince Albert in Stroud as one of three struggling pubs to try and help. In the show he attempts to turn around their fortunes – no mean feat in these extremely difficult times.

The Prince Albert on Rodborough Hill was crowned Stroud CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2020 and is famed for its live music and atmosphere.

Albert landlady Lottie Lyster Connelly

Watch the first episode on Thursday 12 November 2020 at 8pm or catch up on iplayer. And you can do your bit to support them too. Owner Lottie Lyster is now offering a pizza and beer takeaway service. Pizzas are normally available Thurs – Sun with both vegan and gluten-free options available, and beer is on tap for takeaway all day long from 11am to 10pm.

There will even be a new app launched very shortly to make ordering super easy. Keep your eyes peeled for the show and get your orders in now.

Glow up time … we’re plotting Christmas like pros here (*crosses everything*) so we were very excited to hear there’s a brand new light show coming to town.

Malvern Winter Glow is a dazzling new outdoor illuminations trail inspired by Worcs and the Cotswolds natural landscape and heritage.

Catch it between 9 December and 3 January 2021 at the Three Counties Showground. Tickets will be pre-booked and timed entry and the trail is around a mile long so bring your woolies and wellies. There’ll be seasonal food and drink to keep you warm and tickets are priced at £16 each (under 3s go free), Children are £11.

Design lovers will adore this …

Dormy House, the award-winning rural retreat on the Farncombe Estate in Broadway, has upped the style bar even further by announcing a new collab with utterly gorgeous interiors and homeware brand Cox & Cox.

Teaming up with the British brand to totally reimagine what was previously the reception area of the hotel, and transforming the space into a relaxed series of chill-out areas for guests to kick back in style.

Check-in now happens in one of the hotel’s four lounge areas, meaning lots of lovely new safe space too.

We love the laid-back, timeless aesthetic of this brand which is working together with Nette Reynolds, Farncombe Estate’s design director and co-owner, to create the new-look for Dormy.

The new kids on the block … there are two new and noteworthy estate agents in town. Let us introduce you to Albert & Frederick. We love, love, love the name, so called after the owner’s two sons, Albert and Frederick (Bertie being their 10th IVF attempt so it’s a celebration of that too!). MD Graham Gordon-Jones tells us the agency covers Cheltenham and all of the surrounding areas with a big emphasis on the personal approach.

We’ll take this one please

A family run agency, wife Sarah happens to be head honcho behind the delicious Tivolis Gin no less! And the best bit? Albert & Frederick currently has a frankly quite fabulous 0.75% introductory rate on offer. Shall we start packing? …

For countryside home searchers, the other property new agency on the block is Sage Residential. Bringing more than 20 years experience of selling homes to Uley and the surrounding villages.

Becky Sage

Owner Becky Sage tells us it’s USP is ‘combining local knowledge with a 5-star, customer-led, concierge-style approach at an affordable price.’ So if you fancy selling up give her a call.

And finally for some scintillating TV news … it’s Kerry and Kurtan but not as you know them. This Country is about to get a USA version and we’re holding our breath to see whether it’ll live up to the genius of the original.

But we hear that actor/writer combo Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper are being drafted in to be executive directors, so odds are high!

US network Fox has confirmed it has committed to making fourteen half-hour episodes of the comedy. The new version is being written by Jenny Bicks, whose CV includes Sex In The CityThe Big C and the film The Greatest Showman.  And Bridesmaids director Paul Feig will oversee the filming.

And have you seen His Dark Materials on iplayer yet? Then get thee to the remote pronto because our very own Woodchester Mansion in Stroud stars in it. The series starts with a chase in the fabulous Gothic-revivial mansion, along the top corridor and through the laundry room and kitchen.

It’s closed for its 2020 season now but opens again from April 2021 if you want to go down and fan-girl the place.
