Say whhattt?! ... All hail the first newsy newcast of 2021. Want to know what's hot on the block this month, then read on.
Fancy a Zoom Fiesta? … err, who doesn’t atm?! That’s exactly what’s on the menu at Galgos Latino in Stroud.
This fabulous Latin American restaurant-bar is bringing the party to the people whilst we can’t don our stilettos.
The plan? A cocktail-making lesson with Ze, the resident Brazilian mixologist, and soul-lifting music and games with bartender Oriana. It’s all the fun of a bar without having to leave your front room or get a drink spilt down you. Sip on your own wine, beer, or herbal tea (they won’t judge honest).
To join send the super-friendly team a DM for details (plus get a list of the ingredients if you want to make some cocktails). Max number per ‘party’ is 6 and the fun starts at 7pm on Friday 15 January – #letszoomfiesta – update – this event has now ended but stay tuned on the ‘Gram for details of more dates coming up!
Muddy has been experiencing a serious case of carb-coma with the opening of brand new super-hip bakery Knead in Cirencester. Have you been yet?
Taking pastries and bread to the NEXT LEVEL, they are currently open also through lockdown and operating a great click and collect service. Box of divine lemon meringue doughnuts anyone?! *DROOL*
Find them on the lovely Black Jack Street (always great for a wander packed with great indie stores) and go home laden with the prettiest patisserie that will last about 4 minutes once you get in the door.
Word has reached Muddy that the brilliant and quirky Old Post Office Shop near Tewkesbury is taking over the old Beckford Stores. The makeover will restore the shop to its former glory, letting you peruse pearls of vintage and antique treasures between sipping flat whites at a new cafe – count us in.
Owner Jo tells us they’ll be reopening the post office there and relaunching a Deli Shop packed with local produce and homemade goodies. Sounds like weekend wandering heaven to me, as soon as we can all get out again. Muddy can also reveal that there will be two new B&B cottages for hire on the site too. Check it all out from 12 February …
Oh how we miss you airplane food (no one ever said). Tbh I’d happily polish off a plate of tepid tagliatelle on a tiny plastic tray any day, just to be going on holiday again. But luckily when we do finally get back in the air Glos’s Michelin-star celeb chef Tom Kerridge is giving you something to look forward to.
He has launched a new menu with British Airways that short-haul economy customers will be able to enjoy on BA flights. The new range will be part of BA’s Speedbird Café menu and includes Tom’s signature sandwiches and a pie. Can’t wait.
Music and the arts don’t have to be put on hold this year, it’s official. Check out HUM online workshops, the organisation is giving free, on-demand workshops during lockdown to promote wellbeing.
Plus, if you’re a Glos or Worcs NHS workers you get a free full membership to HUM until Friday 19 February 2021, which includes twice weekly workshops hosted live on Zoom, as well as a library of extra content available on demand.
If dance is your thang then head to the Young Performers School of Dance. The studio, based in Cirencester, is hosting an array of dance classes for ages 3 upwards online choose from ballet, tap, modern and more.
Over on the west side of Glos, Cattle Country Farm Park is launching a fantastic, brand new takeaway service from it’s farm-to-table cafe GRAZE.
Feast on sustainable dishes made on the farm in Berkeley and from other local suppliers. What’s on the menu? We’re loving the sound of Lamb Shawarma and the special GRAZE burger. Make dinner times much happier with a takeout on Friday and Saturday evenings from 15 January onwards (5pm to 9pm).
Book ahead alert …. Chatty Man Alan Carr is heading to Cheltenham Racecourse in March 2022 – with tickets on sale at the end of this month (January).
Not again, Alan!, is his first time touring in four years, hear all about his star-studded wedding day, as well as becoming an accidental anarchist, to becoming a reluctant farmer with no doubt lots of lockdown jokes in between. Tickets to see him go on sale at 9am on Friday 15 January 2021. Go people go! … And whilst you’re there why not book too for comedians Jon Richardson (appearing in October 2021) and John Bishop (opening in Feb 2022).
Cheerio for now!
