8 Fabulous festive afternoon teas

Anyone fancy towering trays of festive fancies, sponge reindeer, seasonal savouries, dollops of clotted cream and maybe a glass or two of fizz (hic!). Oh, go on then ...

We’ve cherry-picked the 8 best festive foodie hangouts for afternoon tea in Glos and Worcs. Shall we? …

Burleigh Court Hotel, Stroud

This countryside retreat in the Golden Valley is one of Muddy’s favourite haunts, and the festive afternoon tea is an absolute corker. Settle in beside a roaring fire in the newly refurbed sitting room with squishy sofas or book outdoor in the heated marquee with firepit. You’ll get three tiers made up of finger sandwiches (we loved the seasonal turkey and cranberry ones), still-warm scones with cream and jam, and one of the best cake plates we’ve feasted our eyes on, including mini mince pies, themed Battenburg, marshmallow snowmen and chocolate reindeer cakes. And of course your choice of tea. I went for the Rhubarb and Vanilla one and it was delicious. Open all week, price £21.

Lygon Arms, Broadway, Worcs

With roaring log fires and beautiful Christmas decor, The Lygon Arms is a scene-stealer for a festive munch. Enjoy all the trimmings with a seasonal twist, plus for an additional £10 per person you can sip a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne. What are you waiting for? Price £30 per person, available until 23 December. We love the sound of a Spiced apple and speculoos tart, Clementine and cardamom Gateaux opera and
Gingerbread and eggnog trifle.

Ellenborough Hotel, Cheltenham, Glos

Spend the afternoon in the grand setting of The Great Hall at this 15th century retreat whilst grazing on seasonal delight including a combination of finger sandwiches, scones with rich clotted cream & preserves, a top tier of warm, mulled, spiced & festive sweet treats and your choice of freshly brewed teas or coffees. Served daily 15.00 to 17.00.
