8 places for guilt-free grazing

It's time to rock the guac! Banish the orange Twirls, evac all the Eggnog, anyone else feeling a bit stuffed? We've sourced the best places in Gloucs to eat yourself slimmer - and healthier - this January.

Temple Mama, Cirencester

Hidden down a cobbled back alley of pretty Cirencester you’ll find Temple Mama, and it’s a really delicious spot for some guilt-free grazing. Owner Singaporean chef Ting prides herself on big flavours and real cooking. That means freshly prepared food using local seasonal ingredients with tons of vegan choices.

Made by Bob, Cirencester

This place is the go-to hang out for the Cotswold conoscenti, and one look at the deli table tells you why. You get to watch your quinoa being tossed live in the fabulously chic open-plan kitchen as the chefs prepare a seasonal menu that changes every day. Oh, and we have literally never seen olives so big. The menu features loads of healthy dishes. from roasted pumpkin soup (£6.50) to a rainbow of deli salads (£9.95).

Daylesford Farmshop & Cafe, Kingham

It’s reputation preceeds it, but Daylesford cafe has to get a mention when you want and heavenly, healthy treat. Head for the Trough cafe, or the chilled Legbar (always packed so turn up early), and dive right into the amazing organic menu. I might be slightly addicted to the cold press juices (£6) and the Cotswold Chopped Salad is to diet for.

Jolly Nice Farm Shop, Frampton Mansell

This is one of my fave spots in the whole county – it’s a total gem. Jolly Nice was founded by farmers Rebecca and Simon Wilson in 2013 and is now the place to go for organic groceries in its Farm Shop and light bites served up in its heated yurt!  We love that they are open 8am to 7pm every day – so handy. Nip in for some delicious avo on toast (£5) a veggie breakfast (£6 and amazing) or a locally grown field mushroom burger (£7).

Woodruffs Organic Cafe, Stroud

This hip, organic cafe is an institution in Stroud – reputedly the first totally organic cafe in the UK. It serves up great locally sourced food and a mainly vegetarian menu (with a few fishy options thrown in). If your vibe is gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free and sugar-free then this is the place for you. The Greek mezze with warm pitta looks amazing and they do lovely, healthy kids options too.

Vinnie’s Eatery, Cheltenham

This hits all the healthy eating spots for us. The wow-factor plant-based brunch (£10.25) is a really innovative and tasty option, and the buddha bowls are packed with a delicious cacophony of lentils, dahl and spinach. They even make their buckwheat and brown rice Canadian pancakes sound healthy (well ok, semi!) Team it up with some kombucha or ginger kefir. Right in the heart of pretty Regency Cheltenham.

The Organic Farm Shop and Cafe, Cirencester

Take a cheeky swerve off the Burford Road and you’ll find yourself in a haven of wholesomeness. Abbey Farm Organic Farm Shop and Cafe is a treat if you want healthy but filling dishes. Alongside roasts (including veggie) they serve up vegan options, salads, soups and more, all inspired and produced by the 10 acre vegetable garden surrounding the cafe. There’s organic wine (sorry!) and a heap of eco mags and fairtrade shop to browse whilst you wait.

Koj, Cheltenham

I adore this place, I love it when food is cooked with heart, and Koj is one of those places. Owner chef Koj (always up for a chat) pioneers #nosushi japanese cooking, so pull a seat up at the counter and order a 5-dish Bento meal (£24) with choices including edamame beans, Seabream sashimi, fried tofu and cucumber and seaweed salad. It’s joy on a plate. As long as we stay away from the sake and buns we’ll be fine (repeat mantra, repeat mantra).
