Oh hello new cult bagel shop coming to Cheltenham
The latest lunch spot you need on your radar is The Steamhouse, famous for the best bagels outside of NYC! And it has just announced its first Gloucestershire venue. Decadent bagels are the order of the day here – they are freshly hand rolled, boil & baked every day. Then top it off with doughnuts with homemade salted caramel, chocolate ganache, curds & compotes as well as filled brownies, topped cookies and pretty damn great coffee. It already has a cult following and popular shops in nearby Worcester, Leamington Spa and Redditch. Opening in the ‘cool old’ location of Unit 3 of Crescent Bakery on St George’s Place, it’s set to open its doors from the end of this month. Expect combos such as The Reuben – packed with hot pastrami, melted Swiss, pickles and Sauerkraut – and The Vegan Roast, stuffed with fake bacon, sage and onion stuffing, cranberry sauce and crispy onions.
Rise of the dessert parlours… The Cake Alchemist has arrived!
Another cool new opening for Cheltenham, what started as a hobby for the owner has turned into a brand new cake parlour that will have you drooling. Now open on Regent Street the new store has an eat in area, a childrens play area, and caters for baby showers, birthdays, hen parties and beyond. Drop in for a sweet treat, with a coffee, using beans sourced from acclaimed Gloucester coffee producer, Ethical Addictions Coffee Roasters. Open six days a week Monday – Saturday check out its vegan options too.
New at The Brewery, erm, darts anyone?!
Can darts every really be cool? Apparently so. Welcome to Flight Club, a new ‘social darts’ hang-out for 2022, it’s all about reinventing darts, we hear. Whether you’re an secret expert darts sniper on the sly or have always thought darts was for blokes with beards and beer and bellies, it promises a lot of laughter. You can even win prizes if you step up to one of the multiple throw lines. Try it out with a group of mates (semi private areas for up to 37), along with a great food and cocktails that get delivered to your table.
Malvern entrepreneur vying for Gordon Ramsey crown
Hot on the coattails of Chelt entrepreneur Sophie from Imperial Haus in Cheltenham, get rooting for local business owner Amit Panwar if you’re tuning into Gordon Ramsay’s new BBC show Future Food Stars. The entrepreneur is the owner of the Marlbank Inn in Malvern! He is competing alongside 11 other contestants for a life-changing investment of £150,000 from Ramsay himself. If he wins his brand Pandeli which produces and sells bottled Indian sauces could be the next big thing in your basket. Fingers crossed for him!
Stroud’s iconic hotel is reopening…
Ever walked past the (erm ok currently quite creepy lbh) abandoned old Imperial Hotel next to Stroud station and thought, that would make an amazing hotel? Well someone has!
The once iconic and famous Imperial Hotel (locally known as The Imp) has been scooped up and is planning to reopen in summer 2022 after a massive refurb. We hear big plans have been put in place, including an extensive 20-week refurbishment, for a modern boutique vibe. We can’t wait to check out the new restaurant and rooms.
It’s alfresco movie time in Cheltenham
Cheltenham’s Sandford Parks Lido is teaming up with the brilliant Alfresco Film Company to bring you three blockbusters this summer. Settle in for Ghostbusters: Afterlife – August 19; Grease – August 20 and, the following evening, Jaws, August 21. Tickets cost £14 for adults and £12 for under 16s, or you can splash out on a prime positioned deckchair seat for £19. Wireless headphones will be given out on entry and you can even order a deliciosu katsu curry , hot dog or burger from the lido cafe which will also be in action.
Now boarding… party on a plane
Did you know you can book a party on a jumbo jet in the Cotswolds? Pretty cool we know! Cotswold Airport’s resident Negus BA747 is open for your party, weddings, birthday or event and it’s also open now too for tours to the public. We’re not sure you could find a more unique venue, take a tour around the areas that would normally be off limits, every half hour from 9am weds – Sundays, with last entry at 3.30pm. Spend up to one hour on board exploring both the upper and lower decks of the aircraft, lounge in first class, visit the cockpit and see the new dancefloor (shouldn’t all plans be like this?). Tickets cost £10 for adults, with one free child entry per adult ticket sold, with additional children aged 12 and under costing £5 each.
Gorgeous new makers shop opening in Cheltenham
The Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen has opened the doors of a new shop in Montpellier, Cheltenham. Find this emporium of all things unique and lust-worthy at the Rotunda Terrace. The new shop is a treasure trove of contemporary jewellery, ceramics, textiles, furniture, leatherwork, glass, baskets and more. A perfect place to buy British made crafts in Cheltenham, directly from the makers. Open Monday – Saturday 10am to 5pm.

The folks at Gloucestershire neonatal charity Scoo-B-Doo are publishing a recipe book to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year. From brownies to traybakes, cupcakes to curries, Victoria sponge to vegan suppers, they want to hear from you! Send your recipe to firstname.lastname@example.org by 18th April. They request a minimum donation of £3 for every recipe. All contributors will receive a certificate and free download of the finished e-book and be mentioned by name in the book (sounds exciting, doesn’t it?). And later in the year you can participate in a virtual bake-off and get a chance to win prizes.
And finally…one for the diary flower fans
It’s nearly that time of year again, who wants to walk the dreamy purple carpet? Dates for Cotswold Lavenders’ fragrant fields have just been released. It will open to the public when the flowers are in full bloom, from Wednesday 15 June to Sunday 7 August, with early to mid-July expected to be the best time to see the flowers at their peak before harvesting. There’s no pre-booking this year, so turn up (early!) and get tickets on arrival.
