The Old New Inn, Bourton-on-the-Water

This historic Cotswold inn, with a swanky new bar and restaurant, has had a 6-figure glow-up and certainly stacks up the gold stars for style and sustainability.

Weekend Escapes

One of the hottest inns in the Cotswolds for 2022 is the superbly stylish The Old New Inn. Sitting pretty in the most idyllic of locations in Bourton-on-the-Water – the Venice of the Cotswolds – this historic inn has had a £600k, three-year makeover to create the characterful Tap Room Bar and Restaurant. The new opening has caused quite a buzz about Bourton, elevating the inn into an elegant wine, dine and recline destination.

The newly re-imagined Tap Room Bar and Restaurant will appeal to locals and Bourton’s steady visitor stream alike with a full  range of delicious craft and cask ales to try and a curated wine list. Head chef, Jason Hyatt has also joined the team, bringing 20 years of experience from some of the coolest restaurants in the Cotswolds, most recently at The Fox at Oddington. The menu that’s championed here is locally sourced and seasonal. Families will love it here too with a kid-friendly menu (smaller portions of the adult meals) and the Model Village right on tap next door.

Family-run, its owners Andrew and Julie Lund-Yates bought the hotel and accompanying Model Village at the end of 2018, keen to bring this much loved local landmark back to life. It’s definitely had an incredible glow-up, with eight individually-designed bedrooms romantically named ‘The Lavender Room and ‘The Sheep Room’ amongst others; this place just oozes quirky Cotswold charm.

There’s a strong love-for-local at this elegant inn, from Cacklebean Eggs from Stow-on-the-Wold for your breakfast to Dolcetti gelato crafted in Cirencester. There are also two bee hives tucked away in The Old New Inn garden (check them out) so guests will also be able to try honey made on site by Cotswold bees!

The Old New Inn Tap Room Bar and Restaurant is now taking bookings for lunch Wednesday to Saturday 12-5pm, Sunday 12-6pm, and evening meals Wednesday to Saturday 6pm-8.30pm.
