The Prince Albert Pub, Stroud
A multi award-winning pub with a year round bill of entertainment that oozes soul, great atmosphere and authenticity.
The Prince Albert is a true local pub, run by locals. Multi award-winning owners Lotte and Miles sum it up beautifully as ‘a performance space, a gallery, a living room, a quick chat with friends old and new, an meeting point and always a friendly face.’
They have created a welcoming and friendly unorthodox space, with walls covered with photos of musical inspirations and valued patrons, pink sofas and green walls. Oh, and they love dogs too.
This real ale pub has seven ales on tap, plus a range of local beers on offer (it is the winner of CAMRA Stroud District Pub of the Year 2020) but it’s the great entertainment and atmosphere you’ll stay here for. Home to some of the best nightlife in Stroud, they have everything from acoustic sets and folk nights to to kids comedy, film nights and Stroud punks.
The one to watch here is their annual Beer and Music Festival in May, where pop-up kitchens, boppers, rockers and musos and some seriously good ale combine in the pub courtyard. Then, when the tunes have disappeared, the hanging baskets arrive and the secret garden becomes a haven of butterflies, with stunning views over the valley to Randwick.
Throughout the year (usually at the weekends) you can also enjoy a diverse selection of delicious food pop-ups, from The Jamaica Inn Kitchen with its jerk delights, to Cappinni’s Wood Fired Pizzas and Sicilian Street Food by Umberto Caltabiano.
Serving the local community in a myriad of ways, The Prince Albert is a bulletin board for local events, businesses and services, a meeting point for groups from music to knitting, for people on their way into town, for parents taking their children to music lessons or the youth group. It opens early during the snow to offer hot chocolate and a safe space for the chilly people and families coming down from Rodborough Common. It provides entertainment for a wealth of tastes from world music to burgeoning local bands.
And, most importantly, obvs, The Prince Albert is the very worthy winner of Best Bar in the Glos Muddy Stilettos Awards 2019. Woo hoo!
