Read our review of Woodchester Valley Vineyard, Stroud

This fabulous, family-owned vineyard and award-winning winery is tucked away in Amberley – a peaceful village near Stroud. But blink and you could be in Bordeaux!

Set in over 55 acres it’s the perfect place for a day out or a relaxing and out-of-the-ordinary getaway. Book a tour around the vines to learn all about the grape-to-goblet process then head to the vineyard’s Tasting Room with its stunning views over the valley where Woodchester experts give you a mini-course in wines.

Hugged by lush green valleys on all sides deep in the Cotswold hills, Woodchester Valley was established by the Shiner family in 2007 and the team are warm and welcoming. Spread across three vineyard sites at Amberley, Doverow, and Woodchester snap up your fill of white, rosé and sparkling wines at the Cellar Door shop, direct from vines planted on the limestone soils.

The winery is hot on sustainable and organic harvesting methods, and the wines are also 100% vegan.

And could anything be more cool or romantic than waking up to birdsong over miles and miles of vines on your own private terrace? We think not. You can book to stay in one of three lovely rustic boltholes  on site – the Vineyard Barn (sleeps 2), The Farmhouse Retreat (sleeps 4) or the contemporary Valley House (sleeps 12).

All beautifully appointed, the suites have underfloor heating and log burners for curling up next. Breakfast is also available, order a continental basket that includes croissants and granola and admire fabulous valley or vineyard views from floor to ceiling windows.

You’ll be spoilt for choice with wines, but Muddy loves the Bacchus White and Pinot Rosé – perfecting for sipping on the terrace or balcony after a day’s exploring.
