Slimbridge Wetland Centre

An award-winning haven of wide open spaces bursting with nature, this extraordinary wetland paradise is a brilliant day out for the whole family.

Weekend Escapes

WWT Slimbridge is a wetland wildlife reserve set in more than 100 acres against the backdrop of the spectacular Severn Estuary – a heavenly haven for birds, a nature-lover’s paradise and an all-round brilliant day out.

Each season brings something different to see. Take a walk around the centre in Spring and Summer to see ducklings, goslings, cygnets, kingfishers and more, or head here in the Autumn and Winter months to see migrating birds, white-fronted geese and the beautiful Bewick’s swans. This special sanctuary has more than 200 species of bird including all six species of flamingo to spot. Budding wildlife photographers should head to one of the 12 hides dotted around the centre where you can capture some incredible images – don’t miss the fully accessible Estuary Tower for breathtaking views.

Go on a 4×4 Wild Safari or try out a Canoe Safari which will get you up close and personal with a wonderful array of wetland life – you may even see water voles! Little ones will love splashing about in Welly Boot Land, feeding the geese and spotting frogs in Toad Hall, and meeting marvellous mammals at Back from the Brink. There is also the family friendly app, Wetland Heroes, created by Aardman which is a great way to explore the wetland centre. Slimbridge also has its own museum – Scott House, where you can step back in time in WWT founder Sir Peter Scott’s home.

Want to make your visit extra special? Book an overnight stay at the luxurious Bewick’s Lodge, located within Scott House. Wake up to wildlife with magical sights over the Rushy Lake.

New at WWT Slimbridge is Mission Possible where you can meet the world’s rarest goose, a 360-seat open air auditorium the Living Wetland Theatre where you can listen to a seasonal programme of talks, and the immersive Waterscapes Aviary – one of the biggest in the UK – where you can wander through a wetland paradise.

There are also seasonal events to watch out for, including ‘Evening with Swans’ (Nov – Feb) where you can wine and dine as you watch the famous Bewick’s swans gliding on the lake or the popular Santa’s Coming to Slimbridge (Dec) for a festive treat for families.

What else? WWT Slimbridge was crowned Best Family Attraction in the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2021! Find out why people love it so much and book a trip today.
