Your resident newshound signing in … and here is your fabulous Feb newsflash. Read on for ALL the goss, hot off the Muddy press.
The CodFather of chippies is revealed
Hotter than a triple-fried chip out of the fryer, news coming in to Muddy is that Cirencester’s artisan chippy, The Malt and Anchor has only gone and scooped Best Fish and Chip shop in the UK. It’s a massive win for the restaurant, which won the gong in the first ever ITV Food and Drink Awards in a glittering do hosted by Stephen Fry (ho ho ho).
Quite a scoop for this Ciren fave, tucked away in the heart of the Cotswolds. Watch it here. Get yourself down to this ‘chippy with a twist’ for panko-coated calamari and speciality fish and chips pronto. Oo, and we hear they’ve just launched a new home delivery service too – anyone else drooling?
It’s all about the Frow darling
Did someone say fun, fizz and fashion? Err count us in … get yourself firmly in the front row with this super cool fashion showcase by John Lewis in collab with Cotswold milliners Lisa Von Hallwyl and Jessica Anstey. They will be shimmying down the catwalk at Hotel du Vin in Cheltenham on 26 Feb.
It’s your chance to get first peek at the SS20 styles before anyone else. Tick off those outfits for the Races, a summer wedding, Ascot and beyond. There’s a live DJ set, tickets are £22, including a G&T and nibbles on arrival. Stilettos highly recommended, 6.30 – 9.30pm
Life’s a Drag
Everyone in the known universe seems to watch this (except me – I need to up my a-game right?!) so there’ll be squeals of delight at the news RuPaul’s Drag Race star Blue Hydrangea is performing live at the 2 Pigs in Cheltenham on Sat 28 March, alongside glam queens Misty Monique and Lilly Love.
Suitable for all ages, there are meet ‘n’ greet opportunities before the show at 7.15pm, tickets go on sale on Fri 7 Feb at 10am and are expected to sell out fast. Hair toss. Talk to the hand. We outta here.
Free is the magic number
We hear on the bendy grapevine that the newly launched Hive in Cheltenham is handing out free classes this month when you book online.
Billed as Chelt’s premier luxury yoga studio and holistic therapy centre we’ve had a peek and it offers great stuff like sunrise yoga, teen yoga and mindfulness, and power hour fitness classes, plus some great lunchtime classes you can dip into. Use the coupon FREECLASS when booking to claim yours.
Get your happy camper vibe on
Muddy Glos fave Cotswold Farm Park is adding to its campsite with six new luxe holiday lodges. The attraction, which already has camping pods and glamping tents, is taking bookings for the new lodges which sleep up to five people. Packed with eco-friendly credentials but with a touch of luxury the lodges start from £180 per night and are dog-friendly (whoop).
You get your own private field, stunning views and a private deck to chill out on. One even has a wet room – how fabulous! Guests can enjoy exclusive events and live music in the farm park’s Ox Shed restaurant, as well as free entry into the farm park. To find out more, click here.
Gifford’s madcap magic – dates are announced
Celebrating 20 amazing years in 2020, Giffords Circus will be taking its new tour, The Hooley, across the Cotswolds and beyond. Launching three weeks earlier than previous years at Fennel’s Farm in Stroud on Thurs 9 April 2020, the jamboree includes iconic Glos locations such as Daylesford Organic Farm and Sudeley Castle, as well as sites in Oxford and Henley-on-Thames, and two new locations – Bowood House & Gardens in Wiltshire and the National Trust’s Morden Hall Park in London.
Expect fairies, leprechauns, Celtic music and wild horses a-plenty. We love Gifford’s new 2020 artwork by Nancy Trotter Landry – who is returning to the big top for the 20th anniversary show. Also coming back is Lil Rice, Nell Gifford’s niece, and star of the 2019 show Xanadu, who has stepped into the producer’s shoes at Giffords Circus to make sure much-missed Nell Gifford’s vision lives on. Find tickets here.
Bag it up ladies
Sharpen those elbows Muddy shopping queens, the Vintage Kilo Sale is coming to Cheltenham on Sat 15 Feb. Pick yourself out an entirely new (ish) wardrobe. The stock is all totally handpicked and individual graded by the Kilo team which means top quality at bargain prices (no oofy whiffs of musty nylon here, thank you very much). Plus you’re saving the planet (perfect excuse to shop right?) as last year they saved 200 tonnes of clothing from landfill.
One whole kilo of gorgeous clothes and accessories is just £15. Head down to Cheltenham Ladies’ College from 9.30am. Our hot tip? 70s retro is so in – go get those originals ladies!
We love a fabulous Food Hall at Muddy and William’s – an award-winning food hall, Deli and Oyster Bar in Nailsworth has just reopened after a massive renovation. A brand spanking new shop and larger restaurant await you – they are now open Mon – Sat for lunch and every Friday and Sat night for dinner.
The fish restaurant is one of Rick Stein’s ‘Food Heroes’ and was recently voted one of Matthew Fort’s ‘Five favourite places to shop’.
And hold the front page – because not one but TWO Cotswold locations will be hosting Tom Kerridge’s fantastic Pub in the Park this year. Dates have just been revealed in Bath and Warwick and tickets are now on sale.
Anyone else desperado for summer? Yep, us too. So we’re very excited to hear the line-up for this year’s festival. Expect Tom Walker, Morcheeba. Rudimental DJ, Beverley Knight and the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club in Bath (19 – 21 June), and Basement Jaxx, Roland Gift and the bloomin All Saints in Warwick (5 – 7 June)
All that plus of course a ton of fabulous and famous chefs. Why go to all that effort of travelling to pubs when you can lie in a field and let them come to you?
And finally, you lovely TV aficionados, guess who’s coming to your screens? Only bloomin’ David Schwimmer in GCHQ.
No spoilers here – but let’s just say it looks darn hilarious. The six-episode workplace comedy involves an NSA agent joining an inept computer analyst, played by actor and the series’ writer Nick Mohammed.
