<p>Nestled in the resplendent Evenlode Valley this buzzing market town is a popular place to throw down roots. The broad, leafy high street is lined with elegant 17th century buildings, the pretty Redesdale Market Hall, contemporary boutiques, a thriving café and tea room culture, delis, gift shops, galleries and antique emporiums. </p>



<p>A regular market with artisan food and crafts is hugely popular and there are excellent transport links here including a direct rail link to London. Famously close to <a href="https://www.daylesford.com/">Daylesford Organic Farm</a>, it is well positioned for almost everything we can think of from schools and leisure pursuits to great days out. Downsides? Not many! The trade off is you&#8217;ll have to share it with a lot of tourists as M&amp;M is firmly on most people&#8217;s Cotswold-pilgrimage bucket list.</p>

<p>You are spoilt for choice here with plenty of eateries to choose from. Go traditional with a pub roast at <a href="http://www.blackbearinnmoreton.co.uk/">The Black Bear Inn </a>or get lunch at the award-winning <a href="https://www.cotswoldbarn.com/home" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cotswold Barn</a> and take in the views from its orangery or alfresco terrace. The <a href="https://www.redesdalearms.com/gallery/">Redesdale Arms</a> is perfect if you want something with a modern brasserie-vibe. <a href="https://www.restauranthenne.com">Restaurant Henne</a> should be on your dine out list too &#8211; it&#8217;s listed in the Michelin Guide! A modern British restaurant you&#8217;ll find artistic, delicious and sustainable dishes showcasing local suppliers served up in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.</p>



<p>The popular <a href="https://thefoxatoddington.com/?fbclid=IwY2xjawEwM0dleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHQka3NlZihjCaz9rzI-ADNYwZifgTS7OVnl4PpgmBpfeEhP75EJ3Q98OYw_aem_sKSJStl-P1cxnrvQVt53Zg">Fox at Oddington</a> nearby is as peak Cotswolds country as it gets, with crackling fires, dreamy rustic interiors and a top menu.</p>



<p>Although this is spiffingly good afternoon tea country, there are global options to mix things up, such as the <a href="https://www.rajmahal.one/">Raj Mahal</a>. You could spend all day café-crawling from one latte stop to the next, amongst those we like are <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063595539156">Martha&#8217;s Coffee House</a>, and the popular <a href="https://www.blockleycafe.co.uk/">Blockley Café,</a> found just outside of the town is a our recommendation for laid back brunches.</p>

<p>Every Tuesday, Moreton-in-Marsh hosts the largest open air street market in the UK. The long high street offers lots of art and antique shops, galleries and home decor shops. <a href="https://www.cotswoldgrey.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cotswold Grey </a>has the most beautiful home and accessories if you love the Soho Farmhouse vibe and the <a href="https://www.thecotswoldsnug.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cotswold Snug </a>has rackfuls of gorgeous gifts. </p>



<p><a href="https://www.sophieoliverjewellery.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sophie Oliver</a> has a sparkler for every occasion and husband and the family-run <a href="https://www.cotswoldcheese.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cotswold Cheese Company</a> is a must-visit. Just a few miles away in Chipping Campden you also  have<a href="https://www.instagram.com/dovecountrylifestyle/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;Dove Country Lifestyle</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://academyofflowers.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Covent Garden Academy of Flowers</a> and <a href="http://www.antiques-atlas.com/stuarthouseantiques" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stuart House Antiques</a>. <p>There&#8217;s a lot going on in Moreton, including the annual <a href="https://www.facebook.com/MoretonShow/">Moreton Show</a>, a cornucopia of countryside delights held on the first Saturday every September. Every year there&#8217;s the brilliant <a href="https://www.facebook.com/moretonxmaslights/?locale=en_GB">Christmas Market</a> and Lights Switch on, which is a big crowd puller.</p>

<p>Located in the stunning North Cotswolds, Moreton-in-Marsh is a top notch base for day trips. You are spoilt for choice with postcard-pretty villages to visit, including Chipping Campden and Stow-on-the-Wold. Nature lovers should put the National Trust’s&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hidcote" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hidcote Manor Gardens</a>&nbsp;and<a href="http://www.kiftsgate.co.uk/home#welcome" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">&nbsp;Kiftsgate Gardens</a>&nbsp;(created by three generations of female gardeners) on their list. </p>



<p>The town skims the border with Worcestershire so you can be strolling up the hill to <a href="https://broadwaytower.co.uk/">Broadway Tower </a>for the killer views from the top within 15 mins. Access the 104-mile Cotswold Way from here. Still want more entertainment?<a href="http://www.batsarb.co.uk/"> Batsford Arboretum</a> is just nearby for invigorating seasonal walks as are <a href="https://www.cotswold-falconry.co.uk/">Cotswold Falconry</a> and <a href="https://www.sezincote.co.uk/">Sezincote Gardens</a> too.</p>

<p>Nearby and new for 2024, the brilliant <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/1296040977525955/">Cidermill Theatre </a>in Chipping Campden is a 300 seater theatre and arts venue with big ticket shows in a fabulous state-of-the-art setting.</p>

<p>Prices just seem to go up here, year on year. It&#8217;s not particularly cheap, but bargains can still be found if you&#8217;re willing to compromise on size or location. <p>There are a small handful of nurseries in the town, including <a href="https://walkersprivatedaynursery.co.uk/">Walkers Day Nursery</a>, or enrol them in Kitebrook Preparatory from 3 yrs old. Or head a bit further afield to the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/chippingcampdenpreschool/">Chipping Campden Preschool Playgroup</a> which has a great outdoor area.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-schools">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p>The local <a href="https://www.stdavidsprimaryschool.co.uk/">St David&#8217;s C of E Primary School</a> is rated Good, or, for an independent option <a href="https://www.kitebrookpst.org/">Kitebrook Preparatory School</a> caters for 3 &#8211; 13 year olds. For secondary pupils the excellent <a href="https://campden.school/">Chipping Campden School</a> and nationally-acclaimed <a href="https://www.cotswold.gloucs.sch.uk/">The Cotswold School</a> are both superb options.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Hobbit lovers perk up your ears! On the outskirts of Moreton-in-Marsh is the Four Shire Stone marking the old meeting point of four counties; Gloucestershire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire. It is thought this stone was the inspiration for Tolkien&#8217;s Three-Farthing Stone, featured in <em>Lord of the Rings</em>. Turns out Tolkien regularly visited the town stopping for refreshments at <a href="http://thebellinnmoreton.co.uk/">The Bell Inn,</a> which inspired The Prancing Pony, the pub at Bree in Lord of the Rings.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>In a word, unbeatable. Moreton-in-Marsh has its own mainline station which can zoom you into London in under 90 minutes and to Oxford in just over half an hour. Moreton-in-Marsh is well connected to Cheltenham and other towns and villages in the Cotswolds via bus services too.</p>
