Step into one of the most beautiful castles in England for a top day out. Sudeley Castle near Cheltenham is a brilliant visit whether you are a history buff wanting to immerse yourself in its tales, or a nature-lover with its magnificent grounds.

With a claim to fame of being the only private castle in England to have a queen buried in the grounds – Katherine Parr, wife of King Henry VIII, lived in the castle – it’s a truly fascinating place with 1000 years of history to explore.

Discover the stately rooms of the castle or take in striking views of the Cotswold Hills from one of the 10 award-winning gardens. You’ll find a fantastic adventure playground and fort here along with an adventure trail, 10-piece obstacle course, zip wire, swings and picnic benches. There’s also a lovely café here which serves up all-day food, drink and snacks.

Reopening from 19 March this year, there’s a new exhibition on until 24 March about the 50-year milestone of Sudeley’s longest serving Chatelaine, Lady Ashcombe. Or, diary in one of the year round attractions, from the Spring Homes & Garden Open Fair (April 18 – 21 2024) and Giffords Circus (May 10 – 20 2024) to Fantasy Forest Festival (19 – 21 July).

Having so much fun you don’t want to leave? Make it a Sudely mini break and stay in one of 17 Castle Cottages in total, mostly situated around a central courtyard, ranging from apartments that sleep 3 guests, to large farmhouses that sleep 14.
