Westonbirt may be famed for its autumn colours, but the blossoming season is one of its best kept secrets. Head here for spectacular spring blooms from exotic magnolias, camellias and rhododendrons to the scene stealing cherry plum blossom with their soft pink or white flowers – all accompanied by the beautiful carpets of bluebells throughout the woodland walks. Pick up an activity leaflet at the Welcome Building during Easter that is full of ideas and suggested locations for you to explore spring through your senses.

London Road Cherry Trees & Imperial Gardens, Cheltenham

Muddy dog Beau under the Cheltenham blossom!

We love a pop-up blossom encounter in an urban setting and this famed grassy spot in Cheltenham gives onlookers a breathtaking display every year. A circle of around 20 trees come to life during April full of pink cherry blossom. Find it at the crossroads of London Road and Hewlett Road in the heart of this lovely Regency town. Don’t miss a stroll through Imperial Gardens too, which is surrounded with lovely pink blossom trees, some with benches to sit beneath to take in the scenery.

Hidcote, Chipping Campden

One of the best known Arts and Crafts Gardens in the UK is home at this time of year to some amazing blossom. Open for pre-booked slots, take a visit to this gorgeous house and grounds which is bursting into life with cherry trees, magnolias and more from March to May.

Evesham Blossom Trail, Vale of Evesham

Head for the world-famous blossom trail – known as England’s Blossom Trail, no less! Covering 45 miles, walk part of it or drive through it at leisure. This famous route meanders its way through the pretty Vale of Evesham. Head towards Pershore or Evesham, and you’ll soon start spotting the brown road signs telling you that you’re on the blossom trail. The apple, pear and plum trees grown in one of England’s most fertile areas burst into flower for the spring. From March to May, the blossoms follow on one from another: expect soft pinks of cherry and apple blossom, gossamer whites of pear and plum and damsons in abundance.

It’s not all stately homes and country parks for blossom – nip over the border into Oxfordshire for some more blossom bliss. Good places to see it include the University Parks, where you can picnic besides carpets of spring bulbs. There are also blooming marvellous displays at Headington Hill Park with its gorgeous magnolias and unusual Japanese Bitter Orange trees, which flower in spring. Or go to South Park, which has a fit trail and play area as well as spring flowering trees through which to admire the dreaming spires.
