Small, stunning, and seriously sociable, this is chocolate-box living with plenty of bite.</p>

<p>There&#8217;s one pub here – <a href="https://www.thefleeceinn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Fleece Inn</a>, owned by the National Trust – but it&#8217;s hugely popular with locals and tourists alike, the menu is packed with hearty dishes, epic Sunday roasts and local ales. There&#8217;s a dreamy orchard-meets-beer garden to sit out in during the summer, and crackling fires in the winter. </p>



<p>For brunch, head five minutes up the road to Evesham, where you’ll find <a href="https://www.brewbearcoffeehouse.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Brew Bear </a>for full English classics and the award-winning <a href="https://buongiornocafe.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Buongiorno Café</a> for barista coffee, snacks, and lunch. <a aria-label="Flavours (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.flavoursevesham.com/our-story" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Flavours</a> is a great Sicilian, family-run pizzeria and gelateria, or head to nearby <a href="https://russellsofbroadway.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Russell’s of Broadway</a> for fine modern British menus or the iconic <a href="https://www.broadwaydeli.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Broadway Deli</a> for coffee and cakes on the sun-drenched terrace.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-shop">SHOP</h2>



<p>Bretforton isn&#8217;t shopfront central. It’s more apple trees and honesty boxes, but there’s a secret weapon in the form of <a href="https://bretshop.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bretforton Community Shop,</a> an excellent village hub where you can pick up everyday essentials, flowers, veg, fresh orchard fruit, and other locally produced goodies. </p>



<p>For retail therapy, you’re only 10 mins from Broadway’s indie boutiques, including homewares haven <a href="https://www.cotswoldtrading.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cotswold Trading</a>, lifestyle and interiors gem <a href="https://www.instagram.com/athomewiththerudds/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">At Home With The Rudds</a>, full of covetable finds, and you&#8217;ll find all manner of <a href="https://www.broadway-cotswolds.co.uk/art-and-antiques">gorgeous galleries </a>here from mid-century to modern. In Evesham, the <a aria-label="Evesham Farm Shop (opens in a new tab)" href="http://best-businesses.co.uk/listing/evesham-farm-shop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Evesham Farm Shop</a> has lovely local produce. </p>



<p>You can also be in the standout shopping havens of Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, and Broadway within half an hour – including the brand new <a href="https://cotswoldsdesigneroutlet.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cotswold Designer Outlet</a>, which opened in July. And if you love a rummage, the market in Evesham on Tuesdays and Saturdays always delivers.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-health-amp-wellbeing">HEALTH &amp; WELLBEING</h2>



<p>It’s all about wellness via nature here, with the rolling Vale of Evesham on your doorstep and orchard trails winding right through the village. The Wychavon Way long-distance walking route passes nearby, making it heaven for walkers, runners and pedal-pushers. </p>



<p>There are lots of yoga and pilates classes in Evesham and Broadway (check out <a href="https://yahra.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yahra</a> 10 mins away for yoga and treatments), whilst Evesham offers standard GP and dental services as well as a leisure centre for indoor workouts. If you’re after something more pampering, <a href="https://www.lygonarmshotel.co.uk/spa-wellness/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Lygon Arms Spa</a> in Broadway is just the ticket.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>Small but mighty. The <a href="https://www.bretforton.net/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">village website</a> is a testament to the fun you&#8217;ll have if you like other folk. From the annual flower-filled Open Gardens to the charming <a href="https://www.facebook.com/Bretfortonshow/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bretforton Show</a>, where you can compete in everything from veg-growing to cake decorating, held on 13 Sept this year, there’s always something happening here. </p>



<p>There are lots of clubs to get involved with, from Bretforton Amateur Dramatics (the BADS) to Football and Cricket, and the village even has its own <a href="https://www.bretfortonsilverband.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Silver Band</a>, which has been performing at local carol concerts and cider festivals since 1895. The <a href="https://www.thefleeceinn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fleece Inn</a> is famed for its pub quizzes, live music, and storytelling nights. </p>



<p>In May, the place turns into a raucous asparagus-worshipping hub for the annual Asparagus Auction Festival, with bidding, live bands and dancing.</p>

<p>From Bretforton, you’re a short hop to Broadway Tower, <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/gloucestershire-cotswolds/hidcote" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hidcote Manor Gardens</a>, and the dreamy <a href="https://www.cotswoldlavender.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cotswold Lavender fields</a> in summer. There are also loads of culture nearby, with <a href="https://www.eveshamartscentre.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Evesham Arts Centre</a> offering live theatre, comedy, and film screenings. History buffs will enjoy a trip to <a href="https://www.almonryevesham.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Almonry</a>, while foodies should hit up <a>The Fleece’s orchard events calendar</a> for seasonal festivals, tastings, and concerts.</p>



<p>The area is famous for its Blossom Trail, and in Spring, there are incredibly dazzling displays of blossom from the 40 miles of plum and apple trees.</p>

<p>Culture in Bretforton is homegrown and heartfelt. You’ll find live folk bands under the beams of the Fleece, open-air Shakespeare in the orchard, and brass band concerts on the village green. Want something bigger? <a href="https://www.theregal.ac/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Regal Cinema</a> in Evesham is a stunning Art Deco space showing indie flicks and touring theatre. Or head for one of the events on at <a href="https://www.henrician.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">T</a><a href="https://www.henrician.org/">he Henrician</a>, which has a lively year-round offering of theatre, music, and exhibitions.</p>



<p> <a href="https://www.everymantheatre.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cheltenham’s Everyman</a> is also within striking distance for a city-level cultural fix, and Stratford-upon-Avon&#8217;s iconic <a href="https://www.rsc.org.uk/the-constant-wife" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Royal Theatre Company</a> is only half an hour away for world-class theatre.</p>

<p>Considering its heritage charm and platinum location Bretforton is relatively reasonable for bricks and mortar and still cheaper than neighbouring Broadway or Chipping Campden, so a smart investment. </p>



<p>House prices in the village had an average of £404,773 over the last year. Detached homes sold for an average price of £584,500. Semis £254,000, with terraced homes fetching £260,000 (<em>RIghtmove)</em>.</p>

<p>Bretforton boasts its own school – <a href="https://www.bretfortonvillageschool.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bretforton Village School</a> is Ofsted Good rated and is a small, friendly place that gives big Enid Blyton energy. For older years, Bretforton feeds into <a href="https://www.blackminster.worcs.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Blackminster Middle Schoo</a><a>l</a> and <a href="https://tdms.worcs.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The De Montfort Schoo</a><a>l</a> in Evesham. </p>



<p>For private education, <a href="https://www.ksw.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Croft Prep</a> in Stratford-upon-Avon offers a creative curriculum for ages 2 – 13 yrs, and <a href="https://www.bredonschool.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bredon School</a> is highly regarded for ages 8-18 yrs. Both are within 25 mins and have strong reputations. Just a little further, but still around half an hour, you are equidistant from top-class schools in Worcester and Cheltenham, from <a href="https://www.ksw.org.uk/">King&#8217;s</a> and the <a href="https://www.rgsw.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Royal Grammar Schools</a> to <a href="https://glosworcs.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/review-cheltenham-college-cheltenham/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cheltenham Prep and College</a>.</p>



<p>There are a whopping 30 schools and colleges in and around the Evesham area (most are rated Good or Outstanding), so the appeal for families is obvious.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>The legendary Asparagus Auction – a weird and wonderful May tradition where bidders compete for freshly picked Evesham Vale asparagus, all to raise money for the local village, oh, and it&#8217;s where you&#8217;ll meet the <a href="http://www.britishasparagusfestival.co.uk/home/whatson/meet-the-asparamancer/">world&#8217;s only Asparamacer</a> – Jemima Packington – with an ability to predict the future with (yes you guessed it) asparagus.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>You’re only 10 mins from <a>Evesham Station</a>, with regular trains to London Paddington via Oxford in around 1 hr 45 mins. There’s also Honeybourne Station just a couple of miles away, with easy links to Worcester, Moreton-in-Marsh, and beyond. Road-wise, the M5 is 20 mins away, putting Birmingham, Bristol, and the South West all within easy reach.</p>
