Jolly Nice Magical Christmas Forest, Frampton Mansell, from 27 November
Every year the Jolly Nice paddock magically transforms into an enchanting forest of over 1000 trees, lit with festoons and smelling of pine needles. Super sustainable, with most grown in Gloucestershire, Hampshire and Herefordshire, the forest has trees of all sizes, from tiny little ones to majestic trees of 16 feet (I’m aiming high). This year there’s also a beautiful range of tree decs in the Christmas Shop, and to make picking even easier the Tree Team will be on hand to net it for you and explain about tree care and recycling after Christmas. Choose from Nordmanns to pot grown Spruce and a few more unusual varieties, such as Fraser Fir.
Westonbirt Arboretum Real Trees, Tetbury, from 4 December
Give back with your tree by choosing one from Westonbirt Woodworks at Westonbirt Arboretum, with money from each sale going towards maintaining Forestry England woodlands for future gens. Price start from a very reasonable £25 for a 4ft one (up to £65 for an 8 footer if you’re feeling daring!) Experts will be on hand to advise and help you choose from the hundreds on offer. Plus, don’t miss the magical Enchanted Christmas on selected dates too, it’s a fabulous festive experience. Make sure to prebook for this however.
Winstone’s Ice Cream Parlour, Stroud, from 21 November
Winstone’s has transformed into a magical Christmas tree parlour for the festive season, stocking locally-grown, fresh cut Norway spruces, Nordmann firs and blue spruces. The well known stop off for the best ice-cream in the Cotswolds also offers environmentally-friendly, living rental trees, which you can return again after the festive season! They come in different sizes with 4ft live tree costing £48, which includes a £15 deposit that is returned to you when the tree is brought back. They also deliver to the surrounding area if you don’t have transport.
Cotswold Reindeer Herd Christmas Trees, from 03 December, Ampney Crucis, Cirencester
At the fantastic Cotswold Reindeer Herd site you’ll get a huge stock of freshly cut trees, set out in marquees and a large viewing area.Bring the family, choose your tree, and browse the Christmas gifts, including handmade reindeer antler jewellery from the herd’s very own antlers! The herd lives here permanently, so why not take a walk through Santa’s Forest to see the reindeer. You can spend as long as you like with them so the kids will love it. Choose from non-drop Nordmanns, citrus-scented Koreanas and classic Norway spruces.
Prince Albert Christmas Trees, Rodborough, from 26 November
We love the idea of helping our pubs while we get festive, so why not pop into the Prince Albert (Muddy’s award-winning pub and recent star of Tom Kerridge’s Save Our Pubs on BBC2).They will have Nordmann Firs in and trees coming in in batches to make sure you have the freshest possible. Call 01453 755600 if you need something bigger than 8ft otherwise pop in, why not get a pizza and a beer carry out at the same time too (every Thursday to Saturday).
Miserden Nursery, Stroud, from 28 November
Snap up your traditional and non-drop trees from bijou firs to 12 foot timbers from The Nursery at Miserden. There’s a huge range to choose from here if you head down from 28 November. Not only that you can add some seasonal plants to basket too to cheer up the garden. And for a gorgeous backdrop between Sat 5 and Sun 6 December the Nursery will be selling trees at the pretty as a picture Painswick Rococo Garden too. Warm your cockles with some mulled wine while you choose the biggest tree you can haul home
Top Barn Farm, Holt Heath Farm, Worcester, from 27 November
The trees at Top Barn have been grown here for an average of eight years (and tended lovingly by farmer John) which that means zero tree miles! So a great choice if you want a bit of your Christmas to be carbon neutral. And if you can’t find your dream tree from the ones out you can even choose your tree whilst it is still in the ground, one of the team will chop it down for you. Choose from Nordmann Firs and Blue Spruces.
Little Monksfield Farm Trees, Malvern, Worcs, from 28 November
This farm shop is a tree treasure trove of minimal-drop firs and spruces. All home-grown so they’re super fresh, the farm is open every day from 8.30am until dark. A great one-stop-shop if you want to pick up a lovely festive, hand-made wreath or foliage and why not pick up a pot of their famous honey from the farm bees too (perfect for those Christmas day parsnips).
