<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>THE LOWDOWN</strong></h2>



<p>A farm-based funderland for the whole family set in multiple acres of greenery in Berkeley, Gloucestershire. There&#8217;s enough to keep all ages happy here from a sparkling blue splash park and giant adventure castle with zip wire to play barns and of course, what you really came for, tons of awesome animal encounters.</p>



<p>The park has been a firm family favourite in Gloucestershire for 30 years now. Established in 1992 by the Cullimore family as a rare breeds farm, it has since grown into one of the best fun-day-out attractions in the county, you’ll even find the original owners children and grandchildren working on the farm too. Easy to park with lots of spaces and an overflow car park if it gets busy, it&#8217;s flat and an easily explorable size so great for little legs and buggies.</p>

<p>You won&#8217;t be at a loose end here, guaranteed. Instead, there&#8217;s an impressive array of both indoor and outdoor fun so Cattle Country is good for all weathers and seasons. We&#8217;re talking a wooden adventure playground with a giant castle (complete with rope bridges and slides), the biggest jumping pillow we&#8217;ve ever seen, mini trampolines, mini go karts (£1 extra), mini golf and more. Hanging out in the Beach Barn which is one enormous sandpit looked very popular.</p>

<p>The ahhh factor is big here of course, visitors can get up close with the cutest and friendliest of creatures in the big Animal Barn. There are sheep pens, pigs lolling about, curious pygmy goats who stick their heads right out to get a nibble of whatever you&#8217;re holding and Rabbit World (mainly inhabited by guinea pigs on the day we went but still cute). If you time it well you&#8217;ll even get to feed and handle them too, head there for 11am or 3pm to take part. </p>



<p>Take a stroll along the Farm Trail and take a Tractor &amp; Trailer Ride which is a fun way to see the whole farm with a guide who tells you all about life on the farm for just £1. I also discovered there is Sheep Racing every day at 12pm which sounds like a must, but do note this only takes place on cooler days, so on our visit we didn&#8217;t get to see it.</p>

<p>We came along on a baking hot summer&#8217;s day so the Splash Park (open May to 25 Sept so still time people!) was a shimmering oasis in the sunshine. Just a few feet deep, it is a big hit for toddlers who need to cool off after all that walking around, and of course great for any adult ankles needing some relief.</p>



<p>There is also a great boating lake here, I was all geared up for a canoe safari but they weren&#8217;t in operation the day we visited, as it was closed until they get some more rainfall, but it looks like a lot of fun (phone ahead to check opening). When it is open you get to row around a little island, full of lots of fascinating wildlife, we&#8217;d definitely come back just to try it out.</p>

<p>I have two older kids, that hard-to-please teens stage, and I had wondered if it would be too young for them in general, but they really enjoyed it, the runaway favourite activity being the Giant Scramble Net. This amazing climbing net is the biggest of its kind in the UK. You get all kitted out in a safety harness and helmet by the friendly instructors and off you go, fully attached to the apparatus. My two had a ball, and would have stayed on it for hours if there hadn&#8217;t been a huge queue growing behind them!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">EAT</h2>



<p>When they’ve blown off steam running around head over to GRAZE cafe, which is open from 10am to 4pm. It&#8217;s a cool place to eat, all Scandi wood and an open plan vibe, with loads of tables so you don&#8217;t have to loiter for ages with a tray and a prayer. The range of food is impressive, serving delicious, locally-sourced food, hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice creams. There’s also takeaway GRAZE at the top of the park which is handy, and well thought out.</p>

<p>I eyed up someone having a locally sourced Berkeley Heath Farm Sausage Bap when we arrived and was very tempted, but I had to try the sensational looking Falafel Burger which comes in a beetroot and linseed bun (check out that fabulous colour) (£11.50). My other half had a classic Graze BBQ Cheese Burger (£12.50) and the kids both went Tomato, Pesto &amp; Mozzarella Panini which came with a nice spread of crisps and salad (£8.95) We also tried some of the mouth-wateringly tempting cakes lined up all along the counter. </p>



<p>We had an absolutely huge chunk of flapjack and blondie brownie, both of which really hit the spot after all that activity. The meals are really well pitched, pretty healthy and a generous size too, lunch got a real thumbs up from the kids.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">WHAT ELSE</h2>



<p>Cattle Country&#8217;s Pumpkin Patch is definitely worth a visit. This brilliant place opens on Friday 07 October and has gazillions of home-grown pumpkins and gourds to pick. You’ll also find pumpkin carving and decorating, marshmallow toasting and a seasonal menu taking place in GRAZE. </p>



<p>Your ticket includes entry to the Pumpkin Patch and a whole day at the park which is great value, and snaffle a pumpkin which are priced size starting from £1. Wellies are strongly recommended at this activity but then you just grab your funkily coloured wheelbarrow and off you go to trundle to hunt down &#8216;the one&#8217;. Plus, check out the special Pumpkin Patch photo booths for the ultimate autumn family photo too.</p>



<p>Another date for the diary is <a href="https://www.cattlecountry.co.uk/fireworks">Fireworks Night</a> on 5th and 6th November at the park. Tickets sold out last year for this fab event, so if you&#8217;re interested get them quick. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>THE VERDICT</strong></h2>



<p><strong>GOOD FOR:</strong> Family days out, it&#8217;s a whoop-a minute wonderland for the littles. Toddlers to tweens will have a blast. Anyone with a big kid lurking inside them, you&#8217;ll get a huge kick out of it. A lovely, wholesome day out in the fresh air, that’s fun and educational. What&#8217;s not to love?</p>



<p><strong>NOT FOR</strong>: Much older teens may roll their eyes, be warned, but if you can get them through the gate the scramble net, zip wire, climbing castle and doe-eyed cuties will definitely sway them. </p>
