<p>The Abbey Grounds in Cirencester are picnic perfection &#8211; sweeping lawns, shady trees, swans and ducks gliding past on the River Churn. There’s often a coffee trailer or ice cream van parked up for essential extras, plus a brilliant play park for children tucked in among the greenery. Best of all, it backs right onto the beautiful parish church, so you get postcard views while you’re unpacking the sandwiches.</p>

<p>Book out one of the BBQs or if you run out of food head to The Beach Shack for a surf and turf burger &#8211; they&#8217;re elite! Kids can enjoy the new little paddle boats &#8211; new for 2026 &#8211;  or go out for some fun on a swan pedalo or take on the Aquaventure course if you&#8217;re feeling energetic.</p>

<p>When William Morris described Bibury as the most beautiful village in England he was obvs talking about picnic spots. Get a takeaway bap or coffee from the newly extended Bibury Trout Farm or Eleven café (designed by Laurence Llewelyn Bowen.</p>



<p>Or, take your own and find a spot on the water-side wall and watch the trout blowing bubbles in the River Coln. Too many tourists? Head up Awkward Hill, through a gate and you&#8217;re in open farmland, perfect for shaking out a blanket and having a wonderful, peaceful picnic. Finish off with a cake and coffee from The Twig, an artisan café and bakery on the hill.</p>

<p>A stroll around Rodborough Common is one of Muddy’s favourite go-tos all year round &#8211; it&#8217;s picnic paradise with 300 acres of rolling National Trust land and views of the Five Valleys. There are benches dotted around but better still take a blanket and just spread out where you wish. </p>



<p>Whatever you do don&#8217;t miss a visit to <a href="https://www.winstonesicecream.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Winstone’s Ice Cream Parlour</a>, in the heart of the Common, for the best ice cream win the Cotswolds.</p>

<p>As the largest park in Cheltenham, Pittville Park offers a gorgeous and easily reachable meet-point. Pick a prime spot outside the picturesque Pump Room, or head towards the lake and spot the swans. The park’s cafés are both open for takeaway treats too – spot-on for a post-picnic waterside ice cream.</p>

<p>The cedar-clad Jolly Nice drive-through has become one of the <em>best</em> alfresco feasting and takeaway spots in Glos. Get your order then park up and picnic in one of the loveliest bucolic views complete with rolling fields and grazing goats. </p>



<p>The menu is delicious, from sandwiches to freshly roasted coffee. There&#8217;s a great covered decking areas if you don&#8217;t fancy the traditional ants on the blanet picnic scenario. Take a wander around the excellent farmshop here afterwards &#8211; definite added value!</p>

Sit out on the sun terrace and if you&#8217;re picnicking with the pooch you can also get water, treats and doggy ice-cream here. </p>

<p>The National Trust&#8217;s Croome is a gorgeous place to visit and has dedicated picnic benches. But one of the best tips is to nab one of the National Trust deck chairs scattered around the lakeside and peace out with your pal and your picnic. </p>
