Mark your diaries and dust off your chicest wellies, the <a href="https://rhsmalvern.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">RHS Malvern Spring Festival</a> 2026 opens at Three Counties Showground from Thur 7 &#8211; Sun 10 May.



The must-see show that kicks off RHS&#8217;s fabulous season with style, expect big-name talent, swoon-worthy gardens, and a total feast for the eyes at every turn. Gardening VIP guests include Alan Titchmarsh, Frances Tophill and Adam Frost, and culinary heavyweights serving up talks and tips include Mary Berry, Raymond Blanc and Mark Diacono.

The four-day show is an all-round 10/10 treat for the senses, with delicious food and drink to sample, gorgeous stalls to browse, expertly designed show gardens and plenty of activities for the kids, so they won&#8217;t be bored.



But beyond the floral eye candy, there’s a fresh twist this year that we’re particularly here for: the art of the tablescape. 



Now we absolutely L.O.V.E a stylish table, but how on earth do you achieve that effortless look if you don&#8217;t have a Diploma in Floral Art? Enter Demelza Leng, founder of Glos-based floral design studio <a href="https://theunwalledgarden.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Unwalled Garden</a>, to tell all.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hello-demelza-tell-us-a-little-bit-about-yourself">Hello Demelza, tell us a little bit about yourself?</h2>



Believe it or not, I initially trained in theatre, before going on to pursue a career in event management. This road eventually took me into floristry, something I&#8217;d always had a love for, and I&#8217;ve now been working as a florist for the past five years. I have my own studio in the Cotswolds, not far from Cheltenham, and I spend my days creating bespoke designs for weddings, events, and private homes.

Alongside my studio work, growing my own flowers has always been important to me, as it allows me to work more sustainably and seasonally in my designs.



This is actually my first time tablescaping in front of a judging panel! However, it&#8217;s something I naturally end up doing in so many of my events, designing tables and &#8216;feasting atmospheres&#8217; for weddings in all kinds of settings.

This is my first year exhibiting at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival, and I’m very excited to be taking part in the <a href="https://rhsmalvern.co.uk/whats-on/plants-and-flowers/floral-tablescaping/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Feast of Flowers</a> category. I’ll be transforming a garden shed into a Woodland Restaurant, where flowers take centre stage in an immersive, dining-styled setting.



I can give you a little teaser! It&#8217;ll involve an intimate dining experience, the table dressed for dinner and each place setting featuring a ‘pick of the day’ flower, freshly cut from my garden. The design celebrates the beauty of the season and the idea of bringing the outside in, inviting visitors to experience flowers not just as decoration, but as a feast in themselves.

I’m especially looking forward to exploring the Floral Marquee, I&#8217;ll be searching for new perennials to bring back to my flower farm, as well as taking lots of inspiration from this year’s Show Gardens.



If I have time, I’m hoping to catch August Beth&#8217;s talk in the <a href="https://rhsmalvern.co.uk/whats-on/special-guests/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kitchen Theatre</a> on the Heritage Seed Library, and I’d also love to hear more about Jamie Langlands’ journey as a creative, particularly his approach to designing his show garden.







<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-are-the-biggest-floral-trends-you-re-seeing-for-2026">What are the biggest floral trends you’re seeing for 2026?</h2>



There are three main trends on my radar for 2026. The first is the rise of British flowers &#8211; they seem to be really growing in popularity for their colour, texture and scent, even compared to imported blooms.



The second is fruit and vegetables in florals &#8211; yes this is a thing! It&#8217;s all about layering &#8211; lemons, oranges, pineapples, tomatoes, you name it &#8211; to add pops of scent, colour, and texture to designs. It creates quite the talking point too.



And lastly, colour blocking, this is arrangements or bouquets that include one type of flower, or focus on a single colour, creating bold, &#8216;wow-factor&#8217; designs.

1. Pick a Theme &#8211; Choose a colour palette or theme for your table to style around. This will help the table feel intentional and cohesive rather than thrown together. 



2. Colour Blocking &#8211; Limit each vase to a single colour, then mix and arrange them along the table. It&#8217;s a simple technique that creates real visual impact, even with just a few well chosen stems. 



3. Play With Height &#8211; Varying the height of your arrangements is one of the easiest ways to make a table look professionally styled. Mix tall glass vases with low bowls to create a dynamic, layered design down the centre of the table.



4. Grow Your Own &#8211; The most budget-friendly way to source flowers is straight from your garden, you can cultivate exactly the colours and varieties you love. Even a window box or a pot by the front door is enough to get started.



5. Go Beyond Flowers &#8211; Don&#8217;t be afraid to mix in plant pots, branches, or piles of seasonal fruit and vegetables alongside your flowers. The variety of textures and heights adds depth and a sense of abundance.



6. Layer Your Lighting &#8211; Tapered candles in colours that complement your flowers instantly elevate a table, combined with tealights to bring a flickering light down to a lower level. For an extra luxurious touch, weave in a rechargeable table lamp or two, perfect for summer suppers in the garden!



7. Small Details &#8211; A beautifully folded napkin, finished with a herb or flower and together with a handwritten place name is a wonderful way to bring your theme right to each place setting and make guests feel genuinely welcomed.



8. Use Odd Numbers – Always arrange your vases and vessels in odd numbers, threes and fives in particular. It&#8217;s a classic design rule that feels more natural and visually pleasing.



9. Shop Your Home First &#8211; Before buying anything new, look at what you already have that could work on the table. Milk jugs, glassware, ceramics and bowls can create a beautiful centrepiece without the need for buying new.



10. Scent the Table – For the finishing touch, choose lightly scented candles or tuck in fragrant herbs like rosemary, eucalyptus or lavender among your flowers. Just keep it subtle so it doesn&#8217;t compete with the food!
