If your feed’s been flooded with misty cliff tops and heart-stopping views lately, you’ve probably seen Wintour’s Leap. Since&nbsp;The Girlfriend&nbsp;hit Prime Video, this usually quiet &#8211; but oh-so dramatic &#8211; spot in the Forest of Dean is having a moment.



The Girlfriend has sparked a huge 3840% increase in Google searches for the location, TikTok has gone similarly wild for it, with one clip racking up 2.4 million views and 350k likes.&nbsp;&nbsp;



In the must-watch psychological thriller, Daniel (Laurie Davidson) dreams of a getaway to Wintour’s Leap, and his girlfriend Cherry (Olivia Cooke) surprises him by booking a trip. You&#8217;ll have to tune in for the rest (no spoilers here), but one thing&#8217;s for sure &#8211; the breathtaking scenery in the series has turned this under-the-radar place into a must-visit.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-is-wintour-s-leap">What is Wintour’s Leap?</h2>



Perched high above the River Wye near Chepstow, Wintour’s Leap is one of those gasp-worthy viewpoints that stops you in your tracks. Part of the glorious <a href="https://www.gloucestershirewildlifetrust.co.uk/nature-reserves/lancaut" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lancaut Nature Reserve</a>, this soaring limestone cliff is as dramatic as it is beautiful, and officially protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest – a well-deserved nod to its natural splendour.

From the top, the view is pure magic: the Wye River sweeping in a horseshoe bend below, with the hamlet of Lancaut nestled at its feet. Love a legend? They say Sir John Wintour once galloped his horse over these very cliffs in 1642 to escape Parliamentary troops &#8211; adding to the spot’s wild romance.



With peregrine falcons swooping overhead and totally cinematic pano vibes, it’s little wonder Wintour’s Leap is the UK’s latest Insta-crush.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-how-do-i-reach-it">How do I reach it?</h2>



Find it in the hamlet of Woodcroft in the Forest of Dean, on the English side of the River Wye in Gloucestershire, in an area owned by the&nbsp;Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. The site is best accessed from a small car park near Lancaut&nbsp;or on foot along the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.visitdeanwye.co.uk/trails/the-offas-dyke-path" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Offa&#8217;s Dyke Path</a>. 



There is little&nbsp;roadside parking near Wintour&#8217;s Leap itself, so arrive early, wear sturdy shoes for the walk, then settle in with a flask of hot coffee as you soak up the views.

The top of Wintour&#8217;s Leap looks out onto the famous horseshoe bend &#8211; so this is an absolute box ticker to start with. Other must-sees include the Devil’s Pulpit, with sweeping views of Tintern Abbey and the Wye Valley. Explore <a href="https://cadw.gov.wales/visit/places-to-visit/tintern-abbey" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tintern Abbey</a> itself too &#8211; spectacular Gothic ruins dating back to 1131. Admire it from afar, or get close up (adults: £9, kids: £6.30.)



For wider panoramas of the valley, tackle the&nbsp;Eagle’s Nest Viewpoint&nbsp;on Wyndcliff cliff, on a clear day you can spot the Severn Bridge and nine counties.

Circular walks from Chepstow through Lancaut and Woodcroft take in ancient ruins, riverside paths, and lush forest. Other favourites include the&nbsp;Wye Valley Greenway&nbsp;for an easier stroll, and&nbsp;Coppett Hill for sweeping views of the Malvern Hills and Brecon Beacons. 



Top tip: Take the circular stroll from the car park to the amazing Church of St James and its medieval village, a lovely spot to picnic and look back up at Wintour&#8217;s Leap. Follow the river along and then back up the Offa&#8217;s Dyke path past Pen Moel Estate, &nbsp;a stunning Arts &amp; Crafts Manor House built in 1891. &nbsp;

Wintour’s Leap is a climbing hotspot with over 300 recorded routes. Beginners can try&nbsp;Fly Wall&nbsp;or&nbsp;Corner Buttress, while intermediate climbers often take on Central Rib III. 



Advanced climbers head to the steep, overhanging&nbsp;GO Wall, although access is regulated by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and British Mountaineering Council, so check ahead.

There are several local pubs and cafés offering picturesque pitstops.&nbsp;Head to <a href="https://www.therisingsunwoodcroft.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Rising Sun Woodcroft</a> &#8211; a community-run pub right opposite Wintour&#8217;s Leap. The pub is less than 100 yards from Offa’s Dyke path and the climbing area of Wintour’s Leap. Across the fields is the Wye Valley Greenway cycle path and it&#8217;s near the Devil&#8217;s Pulpit looking over Tintern. 



Top tip: It&#8217;s a very popular local pub for a cracking Sunday roast! So make sure to book a table in advance.



There&#8217;s also a fab little café down the road called <a href="https://cafeonthehilltutshill.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Café on the Hill</a>, in the next village along called Tutshill &#8211; JK Rowling famously went to primary school here! 



A bit further away is <a href="https://theanchortintern.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Anchor Inn</a>&nbsp;in Tintern, right by the ruins of Tintern Abbey and serves locally sourced dishes, it also has circular walking routes you can pick up from the pub.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-time-to-visit">Best time to visit</h2>



Wintour&#8217;s Leap is an all-year rounder stunner, but Autumn is magic, where you&#8217;ll find cooler weather, quieter trails, and vibrant red and gold colours, making it an ideal time of the year for hiking, climbing, or soaking up the scenery. 



Alternatively, go in the Spring for swathes of beautiful wildflowers and woodland scents. Summer is idyllic walking weather here, but it can draw more crowds, and winter can be a bit muddy, but it&#8217;s still utterly atmospheric.
