<p>Snowy mountains and swishy alpine resorts? Pfft. Overrated. Turns out you can get your Winter Olympics fix right here on home turf.</p>



<p>From wobbling down dry ski slopes and perfecting pirouettes on ice, to being pulled across the Glos countryside by a team of enthusiastic huskies. </p>



<p>Whether you’re after full-throttle thrills, family-friendly fun or just an excellent excuse for a post-sport hot chocolate, these cool winter sports prove you don’t need a passport to have winter sports fun.  </p>

<p>Wobble or weave your way down the biggest and best ski destination in the region. There&#8217;s skiing, snowboarding or Snoxross up for grabs, or try tubing &#8211; 30 thrilling minutes of downhill rides in a bouncy ring from £15pp. There are even tubing parties available for kids and adults. Afterwards, hit the Ski Lodge Café for a warming hot chocolate. </p>



<p>Venture a bit further north to Tamworth for the incredible <a href="https://www.snowdome.co.uk/snow-fun/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snow Dome</a> where you can get stuck into skiing, ice-skating, snow play and loads more.</p>

<p>Perfect your spins (or stumbles) at Worc&#8217;s Malvern Ice Quest. Lots of the skaters here are children and novices, so there&#8217;s less chance of being mown down. The ice here is kept soft and snowy, to make a slower speed for skating for all the family and you can hire Roxa Skates. Keen and more experienced? Hire the rink privately for £200 for 1 hour for up to 20 skaters. All sessions are £10 including skate hire.</p>

<p>Glide through the Glos tundra being pulled by huskies!&nbsp;Not strictly WInter Olympics but it&#8217;s totally the vibe. Located on the banks of the river Avon. Arctic Quest is the only company in the UK offering the chance to learn to run the dogs this way. Enjoy a taste of&nbsp;mushing and learn all about the sport&nbsp;before settling down in front of the fire with toasted marshmallows and a hot chocolate. Or, add on a night in a Sami Tipi or Herder’s Hut with campfires, furs and beds. Book in a Full Mushing Experience for £120, and for the adrenalin junkies, do it in the dark.</p>

<p>Wanna have a go at curling? Sorry this one is not South-West, but if you’re heading to&nbsp;<a href="https://london.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/winter-olympics-sports/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">London</a>, you’re in luck because the ice sport that involves sliding discs as close as possible to a target has landed at King’s Cross. </p>



<p>Take advantage of pop up&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kingscross.co.uk/event/club-curling" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Club Curling</a>&nbsp;(closes 1 March; tickets £12; open 12 – 9pm). at Coals Drop Yard, which has multiple ice bays where players of up to six can compete, plus a Club Curling Lounge inspired by vintage Italian ski culture, serving cocktails, Morty’s hot chocolate, mulled wine and coffee.</p>

<p>Yes, really! Did you know we have our own Olympics here in Glos?! These historic games were first held three centuries before the modern Olympic Games in 1612. They are still held in the arena that bears the founder&#8217;s name &#8211; Dover&#8217;s Hill near Chipping Campden. It&#8217;s incredibly fun, very silly, and highly recommended with sports, entertainment and medals a-plenty. Go along on Fri 29 May this year.</p>
