<p>This 56-acre, dog-friendly arboretum is brimming with brightly coloured gardens, trees and shrubs from around the world. With one of the largest private tree and plant collections in the country you’ll find maple and cherry trees and the multi-coloured leaves of the Liquidambar&nbsp;tree. Head to the café to warm your cockles post-stroll.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-westonbirt-arboretum-westonbirt-glos"><a href="https://www.forestryengland.uk/westonbirt-the-national-arboretum" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Westonbirt Arboretum</a>, Westonbirt, Glos</h2>



<p>The 300m long, 13m tall skywalk at Westonbirt is a stunning way to see the seasons change – from tree top height. With a world-renowned collection of 15,000 trees the arboretum is incredible at this time of year – we love it for dog walks. With more than 15,000 specimens of trees spread across 200 acres, including thousands of Japanese maples, Persian ironwoods and American hickories. Visit the Eco café to refuel, it’s full of tasty treats and warming drinks.</p>

<p>Head to Highgrove to wander the exquisite paths of His Majesty&#8217;s royal residence. Or book the popular Autumn Walk to be guided around on a fascinating tour. Join a group of up to 26 guests, led by an experienced guide, on a 75-minute guided stroll through the extraordinary gardens. Cloaked in autumn colour, see the Kitchen Garden, mysterious Stumpery and the majestic Arboretum. Refuel at the Orchard Room café. <em>Tickets £50</em>. They sell out fast so be quick.</p>

<p>The Royal Forest of Dean is a delightful place for some autumn leaf-crunching. Set off from Beechenhurst Lodge, head to Symonds Yat for spectacular red and yellow views across the River Wye or hot foot it up to the Blaize Bailey viewpoint for some breathtaking autumnal scenes. Then enjoy the wow-factor Sculpture Trail – an arty autumn experience we love through the Forest of Dean near Coleford.</p>

<p>This under-the-radar park in the heart of Stroud is the most glorious place in autumn. Park up in the large, free car park and wander through its ancient trees and woodland, all bursting into colour, then have a hot chocolate at the Museum in the Park whilst you take in the view.  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-wyre-forest-nbsp-bewdley-worcs"><strong><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.forestryengland.uk/wyre-forest#howtofind" target="_blank">The Wyre Forest</a>,&nbsp;</strong>Bewdley, Worcs</h2>



<p>The historic Wyre Forest is a stunning place to for a variety of woodland walks and trails amongst beautiful ancient oaks woods and statuesque fir trees. Set across 6,000 acres it’s one of England’s oldest remaining forests (so max forest-bathing vibes here). Do three marked&nbsp;walking trails, the family cycle route, bike hire, horse trails or strap on the trainers for a technicolour jog.</p>

<p>Visit this exquisite 18th century garden during autumn and you’ll find stunning displays from native to exotic tree species – a carpet of golds and reds, and see the garden wildlife and gorgeous follies too. There’s a lovely bijou café here serving up the best hot chocolate for miles around and luscious slabs of cake. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hidcote-manor-garden-chipping-campden"><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/hidcote">Hidcote Manor Garden</a>, Chipping Campden</h2>



<p>This National Trust beauty&nbsp;near Chipping Campden boasts cares of eye-catching acers, beech trees and more, all displaying dazzling autumn colours. Designed by American horticulturist, Major Lawrence Johnston, the garden gets busy so book ahead to guarantee a seasonal stroll here.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-blackhouse-wood-malvern-worcs"><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.worcswildlifetrust.co.uk/nature-reserves/blackhouse-wood" target="_blank">Blackhouse Wood</a>, Malvern, Worcs</h2>



<p>Take an eight miles walk through a trail at the wild Blackhouse Wood Nature Reserve. Dogs are welcome and this place is bursting with untamed autumn colour during October. You can even&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.worcswildlifetrust.co.uk/sites/default/files/2018-10/Worcs%20Woodlands%20and%20Wildlife%20Walk%20-%20map%20and%20directions.pdf" target="_blank">download an audio tour and map here</a>. Cloaking part of the Suckley Hills in the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it’s a fantastically rich ancient semi-natural woodland.</p>

<p>There are fewer more picturesque walks in the Cotswolds than scaling Fish Hill from the village of Broadway, and going up to Broadway Tower. Make it to the top and take in a stunning 360 degree vista of autumn colours. Nip into the Morris &amp; Brown Café for coffee and cake. <p>The setting of Sezincote is pretty special, this grand 200 year-old Mogul Indian palace near Moreton-in-Marsh is fringed by beautifully manicured gardens and trees. No pre-booking is necessary just turn up and explore the sculptured gardens glowing with golden oranges and dazzling reds with ornate bridges and Indian-inspired ornaments.</p>

<p>This beautiful, easy-going walk whisks you around one of the UK&#8217;s most treasured beech woodlands. Follow four miles of dappled sunlight and colour-popping trees to discover the cathedral-like calm of Buckholt Wood, and wonder at the dizzy heights of Cooper’s hill where for hundreds of years the foolhardy have risked their necks for cheese and glory. Autumn awesomeness with a touch of the wild and crazy.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-bonkers-for-conkers-try-these-awesome-ambles"><strong>Bonkers for conkers?  Try these awesome ambles</strong>&#8230;</h2>



<p>Head to<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.cheltenham.gov.uk/info/33/parks_and_open_spaces/350/pittville_park" target="_blank">&nbsp;Pittville Park</a>&nbsp;in the centre of Cheltenham. Lined with huge horse chestnut trees, giant oaks and ancient yew trees, Pittville Park is a prime place for conker hunters. Try the new orangery cafe here for a warming pick-me-up.</p>



<p>Or, take a trip to a Muddy favourite –&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bathurstestate.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bathurst Estate</a>&nbsp;in Cirencester. This stately park is a delightful dreamscape in autumn and is filled with ancient horse chestnut trees, just remember to bring a large bag, you&#8217;ll need it. Need a cuppa of something warm? Head to Jack&#8217;s café minutes away in Black Jack Street.</p>
